Swipe left, swipe right. Swipe left, swipe right.
You navigate to another website. Create another biography. Upload your highlight reel of photos. Download another app on your phone. Repeat the process.
You swipe left and right through various photos. You make your way through different profiles reading names, ages, locations, biographies, interests, and more.
You finally find a connection, but the conversation and communication style aren’t there. Another inappropriate photo comes onto your screen.
You slam your phone on the table and have the urge to throw it across the room. You decide to delete the dating apps on your phone and exit all of the dating tabs that are open on your internet browser.
Let’s face it: You’re so sick of online dating.
Here’s how to meet someone without online dating.
Attend a Singles Event
No matter where you live, there’s a good chance that someone is coordinating a singles event in your area. This may feel cheesy, but there’s a fairly good chance you’ll meet someone who feels the same way that you do. Don’t knock it until you try it. Even if you attend one and decide these types of events aren’t really for you, at least you can say you tried and won’t have any regret or uncertainty moving forward.
Sign Up for a Group Class
Attend classes that are in line with your interests. If you’re into working out, sign up for a class at a local studio you’ve been wanting to try. If you’re into arts and crafts, sign up for a painting or pottery class. If cooking is more of your speed, attend a cooking class. When you sign up for things you already enjoy, you’re more likely to meet people who share similar interests that you do.
You may end up finding a romantic connection, a friendship, or just a class you really enjoy and will sign up for again in the future.
Volunteers
Volunteering is a great way to make yourself feel better by giving back in some way. Find a place to volunteer that you’re interested in supporting so you can surround yourself with like-minded individuals. Plus, you never know who you’ll meet when you’re volunteering. Some of the other volunteers may be single as well.
Even if you don’t end up finding someone you’re interested in, you’ll still feel great at the end of the day knowing you put yourself out there to help people in need.
Put Yourself Out There
If you’re looking for love, it’s time to put yourself out there. You won’t meet anyone from the comfort of your own home, especially if you’re done with dating apps and websites. Instead of making coffee at home, grab coffee at a local coffee shop. Instead of eating at your desk at work, go out for a walk or grab lunch at a restaurant nearby. Putting yourself out there means more than just physically putting yourself out there. If you see someone who you’re interested in talking to, make a move. Strike up a conversation and see what happens!
Next Steps
Dating can be extremely hard and challenging, especially in a world that has transformed into a virtual and digital space. It’s can be hard to connect with someone through chat without seeing their facial expressions or hearing their tone of voice. Plus, it’s hard to put yourself out there and get out of your comfort zone.
That being said, dating in modern society is still possible. If you decide to ditch your dating apps, you’re not alone. Another thing to note is that you didn’t fail and you’re not undateable.
If you’re struggling with getting over the slump that you may be feeling, talking to a therapist can be a great way to figure out what you truly want in a partner.
